September's Speaker, Bo Mitchell, CPP

Topoff 3  Overview

If you didn't attend the September meeting, you missed what could be the most important presentation of the past year.

Chapter member Bo Mitchell was involved in the planning operations and analysis of what happened during the simulated WMD attack exercise held last spring.  In a word or three, Bo summed up a fundamental concept that all security departments in our chapter area must understand:

"You're on your own!"

If and when there is an event like was depicted in TopOff or an event like the recent hurricanes in the Gulf, local first responder, law enforcement, and other public safety resources will be spread so thin they won't be able to give you or your corporation any assistance to any degree.

In fact, Public Safety's assumptions of the private sector security and safety capabilities are almost diametrically opposed to what they really are.  And the private sector's suppositions about the capabilities of the public sector also don't reflect the real status.

People in charge of security for facilities of all sizes better have plans of action of all sorts of different scenarios.

Presentations like Bo's are one of the reasons all chapter members should try attend our monthly meetings.
