Chairman's Message
 February 2005

As 2006 begins, ASIS International continues to grow and advance the security industry not only within the United States but, truly, world-wide with nine new chapters being founded in 2005.  But as the world-wide organization continues to grow, the Southern Connecticut Chapter membership numbers are decreasing.  Attendance at monthly meetings is comprised of a small group of members whose dedication to the continuance of our chapter’s existence and our organization’s mission compel them to attend.

Where are the rest of you?  Our Chapter’s membership stands at 215.  On average, attendance at the monthly meetings number between 15 and 20 attendees.  Realization of this fact asks the question, “Why don’t you come?”

In 2005 a survey was sent out requesting your input.  It requested topics that you, the membership, would like to hear about.  It requested your feedback, your ideas, and your comments.  Above all, it requested 5 minutes of your time to complete.  Only 19 responses were received.  2006 must be different if the Chapter is to continue to exist and we have taken the first steps to make sure it is different.

This year will see a significant change in the focus and purpose of our meetings.  The Chapter will focus more on networking and educational events.  These events will include networking events at the Bridgeport Bluefish, our annual Golf Outing and possibly an “ASIS” night at Rye Playland.  It is our plan that the Bluefish and Rye Playland events would be open not only to members but to their families as well.

I am very pleased to announce that, for the first time in many years, the Southern Connecticut Chapter will be holding an education seminar.  This is slated for late April and more information can be found on the “Upcoming Events” page on the website.

We will also incorporate changes in venue and the times of the meetings in an effort to be “available” to more of the membership.  Due to this restructuring of the Chapter’s focus there will not be a February meeting.

How many of you remember the Snowflake Balls of years past?  For those of you who do, 2007 will see the return of this enjoyable event and more.

These are only some of the changes planned for the Southern CT Chapter in 2006.  We are also looking beyond this year as to how to continue to increase our value to the membership as a whole.

I invite you to join with me and the Board to re-invigorate our membership, re-kindle lost relationships, increase your knowledge and renew your dedication to ASIS International and the Southern CT Chapter.

Greg Kalafus
Chairman
