January's Speaker

Fred Dupuis, Director of Security for the CT Lottery System, gave us an intriguing look at the behind the scenes operations of the lottery.  The level of security that goes into preventing fraud in the daily drawings is impressive.  Fifteen trial runs are made before and after each drawing and the balls are weighed and tested.  All this to prevent rigging the outcome.  He talked about theft and fraud detection on scratch tickets sales at 2800 retail outlets.  Scratch tickets account for 62% of lottery sales.

Fred also detailed how every lottery sales terminal in the state is tied into the Amber Alert system for almost instantaneous dissemination of  descriptions of persons and vehicles involved in child abductions.  The Lottery’s 300 electronic message units will show the descriptions statewide.

Fred also had a couple of great anecdotes about lottery winners coming face to face with the Deadbeat Dad laws.

Chairman's Message February 2005

Happy new year to everyone.  Sorry I missed you at the last meeting, and in January and February I will be visiting colleges with my son, therefore I will not be able to attend this month's meeting.  I am in constant communication with the other board members and committee chairpersons.

Many thanks to Vice-chairman Frank Teti on two terrific speakers in December and January.  I have received excellent feedback from many members on the information presented the last two months.  Fred Dupuis, security director, Connecticut state lottery, gave an excellent presentation last month on the Connecticut Amber system and lottery security.

This month our excellent run on speakers continues.  We have Detective Sergeant Peter Dispagna, bureau of criminal investigations, property crime unit commander, Stamford police department.  Sergeant Dispagna will provide us a 30 minute presentation on property crime as it pertains to and affects, not only the general public, but corporate business and the security professional:  Property retention safekeeping and how the security community can aid and work closer with their local police departments.

Future meetings include our annual corporate meeting, at Purdue Pharma in may, a possible police chiefs round table for April and the golf outing in June.

Many other events coming soon:   CPP reviews in Boston and New York and the Boston trade show on May 4th

Well wishes and peace to all.

Steven j. Korf
Chapter Chairman
